Partnership Roles in Action
The following yearly tasks illustrate an example of how redefined roles of both the city and TreesCharlotte could work in concert and engage neighborhoods.
Year One
Area 1: Inventory Update (city). City staff to re-inventory the entire area to prepare for upcoming cyclical care and identify future planting sites. The quantity of potential new tree sites is given to TreesCharlotte to determine funding needs for future public tree planting campaign in the area.
Year Two
Area 1: Tree Care (city). City staff/contractors prune or remove any trees in need of care as determined by the recently completed inventory.
Area 1: Neighborhood Engagement (TreesCharlotte & city). The City of Charlotte and TreesCharlotte work with neighborhood groups to update them on the plan and the state of the trees in their neighborhood. Additional goals include engaging residents, aligning plantings with priorities, fundraising, etc. Get city approval for planting plan.
Area 2: Inventory Update (city). Update by city staff to prepare for upcoming cyclical care and identify future planting sites. The quantity of potential new tree sites is given to TreesCharlotte to determine funding needs for the public tree planting campaign.
Year Three
Area 1: Tree Planting (city, TreesCharlotte, neighborhoods). Public tree planting implementation, train youth team (Indy example) for three-year young tree care program on newly planted trees.
Area 2: Tree Care (city).
Area 2: Neighborhood Engagement (TreesCharlotte, city, neighborhoods)
Area 3: Inventory Update (city).
Year Four
Area 1: Young Tree Care - First Year (TreesCharlotte youth team)
Area 2: Tree Planting (city, TreesCharlotte, neighborhoods).
Area 3: Tree Care (city).
Area 3: Neighborhood Engagement (TreesCharlotte, city, neighborhoods)
Area 4: Inventory Update (city).

And the cycle continues indefinitely, depending on the number and size of neighborhood/management/neighborhood engagement areas (which can be defined in the city's urban forestry management plan and be in concert with. However, these areas should fall in line with the established neighborhood boundaries.
